Edwin van Gelder studied horn and voice at the
Rotterdam Conservatory. At present he is studying under James McCray
and Zenia Prizrenka. Productions in which he has participated
include Schnittke’s Life with an Idiot with the Netherlands
Opera Foundation, Verdi’s Attila and Rossini’s Demetrio e
Polibio during the Belcanto Festival in Dordrecht , and
Locke/Gibbons’ Cupid and Death at the Festival of Ancient
Music in Utrecht. In the summer of 2005 he sang the role of Don José
in Carmen, a production in the Noordwijk dunes. He has sung
the same role in Gent, Tilburg and Amsterdam. Other productions have
included Verdi’s operas Aida (Radames) in Roosendaal and
Aroldo (Godvino) with the Rotterdam Opera, and Les contes d'
Hoffmann (Spalanzani) by Offenbach and Pan y Toros (Abbot
Ciruela) by Francisco Barbieri, both in Amsterdam. He holds teaching
posts at the Amsterdam Theatre School and the Kleinkunst (Cabaret)
Academy. |
