Esther Been was born in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. She studied singing at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague with Diane Forlano and Rita Dams. She graduated cum laude in 1996 and continued her studies at the International Opera Centre in Amsterdam. She has taken part in master classes given by Charlotte Margiono, Elly Ameling, Christina Deutekom and Roberta Alexander. Esther Been took part in many opera productions including the title role in Carmen, Cherubino in the Marriage of Figaro, Nerone in the Coronation of Poppea and Blanche in Dialogues des Carmélites. She has sung Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus and Amaranta in Haydn’s Fedeltá Premiata, la libellule and la tasse chinoise in L’Enfant et les Sortilèges. Esther sang Métella in Offenbach’s La vie Parisienne and the Mother Superior in The Sound of Music in the Netherlands and Belgium. In Erfurt she sang El Amor Brujo and in Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam Ravel’s Shéhérazade. Esther Been has given concerts in many countries, including Russia, Italy, South Africa, Dubai, Singapoer, Austria and worked with the conductors, Riccardo Chailly, Carlo Rizzi, Stephen Stubbs, Ingo Metzmacher and Ed Spanjaard. She works with the operatrio HET TOSCA EET SLAKKEN ZONDER ZOUT PROJECT. At present she is coached by Rachel Ann Morgan. Opera Repertoire (roles sung)
